MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY (MRF)
One of the responsibilities of the Urban Local Bodies as highlighted by the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 is setting up material recovery facilities (MRFs). An MRF is a plant that separates and prepares single-stream recycling materials to be sold to end buyers. Non-biodegradable materials and solid waste collected from authorized or unauthorized waste collectors, which can be reused and recycled, end up at MRFs.Here, waste is segregated, sorted, processed, or disposed of. MRFs sort a wide array of recyclable materials like plastics, cardboard, paper, glass bottles, metal containers and cartons.
At VMPL, based on the mandate provided by the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, we have started an MRF where waste can be recovered, stored, and transported to the respective recycling centers.
