BIOMEDICAL WASTE
Biomedical waste contains infectious materials and is generated during diagnosis, treatment, and immunization procedures. The World Health Organisation has categorized biomedical waste as infectious, pathological, pharmaceutical, genotoxic, radioactive, chemical, general/other, and sharp objects. Examples include tissues, organs, and body parts, animal wastes from veterinary hospitals, needles, syringes, and discarded medicines.
The Central Pollution Control Board has designated separate bins to dispose of biomedical wastes. Yellow bins are for anatomical waste, red is for contaminated plastic waste, blue is for glass waste and white is for hazardous waste.
